If you’re the sort of person who likes structure, you will love this simple formula I’ve created for you. It will help you achieve more outfit combinations from a limited number of items in your wardrobe.

Just a little note: For the purpose of this post, we will base this wardrobe on 30 pieces. Of course, it can be more or less.

Think about your clothes in categories. Then break each category into 3 different pieces.

EXAMPLE CATEGORIES

1. Short Sleeve Tops

2. Long sleeve Tops

3. Cardi’s

4. Jumpers

5. Coat/Blazer

6. Pants

7. Skirts

8. Dresses

9. Shoes (flat)

10. Shoes (heel)

Now, For each category you will have 3 options:

1 in a neutral colour that will go with everything,

1 textured or patterned fabric to help you create a more interesting look

1 different colour option for when you want something more exciting

Example Long Sleeve Top: Neutral Pullover, Textured/Patterned Turtleneck, Coloured V-Neck

Neutral Pattern Colour Jumpers2 copy

Example Summer Flats: Neutral Peep Toe, Textured Sandal, Colour Sandal

You may want more or less in your wardrobe. And that’s great! Do what works for you. But as long as you have a neutral and something a bit interesting (either colour or texture) in each catagory, then you’re set!

The most important thing to remember is to have Fun! Find pieces you LOVE. Because that’s what this is all about. Rules and restrictions are a great way to push creativity. But knowing when and how to break the rules – that’s where the magic happens ;-)
